Catloguing the folders and files on any given device is quite a daunting task that, if like me you are extremely reluctant to ever discard content, can seem a mammoth task.
My personal approach has been to connect a network storage device to my home router and establish procedures to archive and backup files from my different devices to that on a fairly regular basis. I make use of WinZip in order to make the best use of available disk space.
At the outset, some few years ago, one of my primary objectives was to have an ability to "compare" the contents of two folders and have visual feedback reflecting the comparison of files in each folder.
The menu option Catalogue/Folder Compare is the starting point when reviewing the features that are provided in the Priory Toolbox. The images below illustrate variations of the window that is displayed when the user has selected either a single folder or a pair of folders. When the latter situation is encountered a comparison of Master Folder content with the selected Compare Folder results in the inclusion of visual indicators (akin to traffic lights) that convey the situation that applies to each item listed.
Follow this link for an explanation of the underlying features of this toolbox facility.
The listed files and sub-folders reflect the content of the selected Master Folder with a visual shown in the rightmost column headed RAG, identifying whether the item exists in the Compare Folder if the user has identified the latter.
The leftmost Cat column shows a further visual that reflects the degree of information that is recorded for individual items.
The Sel column displays another visual element that is related to user selection that permits the user to perform a selected "action" for multiple items. The rear window illustrates displayed content when the user has only identified a Master Folder and RAG status is set to a blue traffic light.
The central window does identify a Compare Folder and the RAG icon idicates whether the file or folder is respectively not found (red), found but varies in size/date (amber) or is fully matched (green).
The lower window illustrates the comparison that results from swapping the Master Folder and Compare Folder entries in order to "reverse" the focus of the review.
